About Greg
Torquil was founded initially as a consulting and later coaching company by Greg Castle in 2007.
Professional Business Background:
Majority of Greg's 29 year career has been spent at executive director and board level within large global and South African corporates companies, across numerous industries (incl. Hunt Leuchars & Hepburn, Kimberly-Clark, BASF, Rainbow Foods and DGB). His leadership roles span General Management, Strategic Marketing, Brand Management, Business Development, New Product Development, Logistics and Sales Leadership, across FMCG (Consumer Goods) and Business-to-Business (Industrial Goods) sectors. Throughout his career, Greg has managed to successfully combine his Strategic Approach with his Entrepreneurial Nature.
Entrepreneur & Business Owner:
After selling his share in Rainbow Foods, Greg went on to start Torquil, as well as Brothers Wines (a boutique winery producing quality wines), and since then has consulted to and coached and even wider range of clients across most industries. After gaining Global, Professional Business Coaching accreditation, Greg has spent most of his time coaching smaller and medium-sized owner-run businesses, and mentoring CEO's and executives of large corporates to grow and prosper. Essentially, teaching and assisting business owners and executives to spend more time working ON rather than IN their businesses.
Pro-bono Student Mentorship:
Shortly after its establishment, Greg was invited to join the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Mentorship Programme as an external mentor to their hand-picked post-graduate students. For 13 years now, he has been driven to provide pro-bono support to eager, self-motivated, inspired young future Global Leaders, in their own career choices as well as ongoing personal and business development, with particular emphasis on entrepreneurship. Greg is also guest lecturer on Change Management and Marketing at the UCT (Graduate School of Business) and Henley Business School (UK).
Life Balance:
Greg is married to Australian born, Christina, and a very committed and involved dad to their two sons, Dylan (currently studying BCom - Marketing & Entrepreneurship) and Alex (currently studying BSocSci Psychology and Organisational Psychology), both at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He is also a passionate wine lover and wine maker, enjoys good food shared with interesting people, and getting into the African bush as often as he can.
Greg holds an MBA (Henley Business School, Reading University - UK), with a BCom (Marketing Management & Business Administration - University of Natal)
